Tavy

A very warm welcome to you from the Tavy Team!

Mrs Lake teaches the Year Three and Four class and is supported by Miss Wood, Mrs Down, Mrs Hockridge, Mrs Whiles and Mrs Janecka.

Tavy class are a hardworking class with high expectations. We strive to provide an active, happy and secure learning environment where all children are encouraged to try their very best and to reach their full potential. We always try to make learning fun, exciting and to develop curiosity in all our pupils.

Our classroom is language and resource rich which supports children’s learning and encourages independence. Pupils learn and work together in a nurturing, supportive and engaging environment where they are encouraged to go about their day with a positive mindset.  Learners are encouraged to demonstrate team work, determination and to be resilient in all learning situations. We always celebrate positive learning behaviours as a whole class and love learning from and with each other. We strongly believe in collaborative conversations linked to our learning and love to share our ideas, concepts and views. Our classroom environment enables pupils to take greater responsibility and to have the confidence to take control of their own learning.

Each half term we explore a new theme, with a Geography or History driver. We strive to provide the children with a fun and exciting curriculum which caters to their individual needs.  We really immerse ourselves in our learning; creating, finding and exploring as well as searching and discovering.

KS2 Rolling Programme

Our Geography topic this term is 'Mexico' and our History topic is 'Crime and Punishment'.

We encourage home learning and love children sharing their work with each other. We consider reading to be an integral part of learning and it is a key focus for us in Tavy. Reading underpins everything children do in school, and will continue to do so, in their lives after school! In Tavy, children are given time during the day to choose, change and to read their books. In addition, they are encouraged to discuss any books read. Please make sure children bring into school their reading books and home-school books every day. It is important that children maintain regular reading daily at home, just 10 minutes a day can make a world of difference.

Spellings are set every Friday and tested every following Friday. The spellings set are related to work being explored and also the statutory spellings lists. We look at the spelling strategy being focused on in our spellings as part of our English work during the week. Spellings are also put onto SpellingFrame website for children to practise at home.

In Tavy, we are working hard at recalling our 2, 5, 10, 3, 4 and 8’s timetables. We encourage children to regularly practise these times tables. To help, you could quiz your child on the facts of each times table, ask them to recite them in order, or backwards. When they become more confident they should be able to answer division questions using the times table they have learnt. Each child has a login to TT Rockstars which will help to develop a rapid recall of times tables in a stimulating and competitive way.

We are looking forward to a busy and exciting time in Tavy with lots of fascinating new learning opportunities. If there is anything you would like to talk to us about, please feel free to talk to any member of the Tavy team after school, or make an appointment via the school office.

Thank you for your continued support, we are excited to be on this learning journey with you all.
